Cultural Resources

On September 25, 1995, the San Carlos Apache Tribe proudly opened its first Culture Center which, for the first time, gave the Tribe the opportunity to tell its own history from the perspective of the San Carlos apache people.

Exhibit

Visitors learn about the spiritual beginnings of the people, of the Mountain Spirit Dancers, and the beautiful Changing Woman Ceremony, known today as the Sunrise Ceremony. They will learn about the cultural legacy left by the people who lived on the land for thousands of years, and the period of time when they moved like the wind across the Southwestern United States and Northern New Mexico. The exhibit describes the period of forced confinement on the reservation and shows life as it is today for the San Carlos Apache people, as well as the vision for tomorrow.

Educational Programs

Demonstrations are available for school groups and other groups.
Please call the Center’s manager for information and fees.

We offer Apache language and materials and Apache language
certification.
