SWAT units evolved from riot control and responding to violent confrontations to being used in drug raids, counter-terrorism efforts, and other high-risk situations.
SWAT Deployments
While SWAT teams are involved in high-risk scenarios, they are also frequently deployed to serve warrants, especially for narcotics investigations.
Other Special Operations Units
Besides SWAT teams, police departments may also have other specialized units within their Special Operations divisions, such as tactical traffic units, aviation units, or units focused on specific types of crime, like vice or narcotics.
