Law Enforcement

The San Carlos Apache Police Department (SCAPD) patrols 1.8 million acres of the Reservation and patrols Arizona State Routes 177 and 70 which go through the Reservation. The SCAPD consists of one Chief of Police, one Lieutenant, 4 Sergeants, 25 full-time sworn Police Officers, two Detectives, one Civilian dedicated to compliance with the federal Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, 7 Security Officers, and SCAPD administration, under the direction of the Tribe’s Chief of Police.  On occasion, the SCAPD work alongside off-Reservation law enforcement agencies, such as the FBI, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Gila and Graham Country Sheriffs, and Globe and Safford Police Departments and White Mountain Apache Police Department, to better combat gangs and narcotics. At this time, the Tribe maintains cross-jurisdictional compacts with the neighboring counties Sheriffs and municipalities (Graham, Gila, and Globe Police Departments).
