Mission
To increase the health and well-being of the San Carlos Apache Tribe by promoting health education and healthy lifestyles; delivering the highest quality services while continuously embracing our history and strengthening pride in our cultural identity.

Vision

The San Carlos Apache Tribe’s Department of Health and Human Services (DDHS) provides administrative, financial, and technical assistance to 13 tribal health programs to improve the health and well-being of the San Carlos Apache Tribal members.

DHHS Administration:

  • Develops infrastructure for accreditation by Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Car (AAAHC)
  • Makes recommendations to the Tribe’s Health and Welfare Committee and the San Carlos Tribal Council concerning federal programs, services, functions or activities (PSFAs) that may be contracted by the Tribe;
  • Bills third-party resources for DHHS programs;
  • Conducts epidemiological research and collects and analyzes data to improve health outcomes and services;
  • Integrates and coordinates care among the DHHS programs and with external agencies and organizations on the city and state levels;
  • Sustains and enhances existing programs and services by seeking grant funding;
  • Advocates on behalf of the Tribe with all applicable and health related agencies, the Tribal Council, SCAT departments, community agencies, and local/state/federal agencies in health promotion/disease prevention efforts;
  • Encourages tribal members to seek professional health-related careers.

Natural Resources

The Natural Resource Department works to maintain and protect 1.8 million acres of San Carlos Apache Tribe reservation land with its varied terrains and ecosystems. 

 The Department consists of:

  • Department of Environmental Protection
  • San Carlos Forest Resources Program
  • San Carlos Recreation and Wildlife Department
  • San Carlos Tribal Farm
