Recreation & Wildlife

The San Carlos Recreation and Wildlife Department serves many wildlife species, tribal members, and non-tribal members. This department also houses the Game and Fish Officers who are the wardens of land. Game and Fish enforces all ordinances pertaining to wildlife, wildlife habitats, and recreation.

Mission: “To preserve, protect, and enhance wildlife populations on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, for the benefit of the Tribe and for the benefit of the ecosystem.” The department hosts Big Game Hunting lotteries as well as non-lottery hunts. The tag sales benefit the Tribe’s Conservation Fund which is used for wildlife survey, research, and habitat improvement projects.
